Our group has had a concern for Eritrea for the past three years or so since I met Dr. Berhane Asmelash (Release Eritrea!) at a conference in London. We have been working closely with Dr. Khataza Gondwe (Christian Solidarity Worldwide) on the annual protest at the Embassy in London.

Well, yesterday in Rome we met Mrs. Patrizia Sentinelli, which is the viceminister of the Italian Foreign Office. The meeting was centered on Human Rights in Eritrea, and it was very productive: the Italian Government has shown a deep concern, and Mrs. Sentinelli promised us a renewed engagement on this matter. We gave her also your document underlining its importance. Let's hope something useful happens.
I spoke of your mail also to my colleagues belonging to other Italian organizations engaged on human rights in Eritrea, and I suggest you to enter in touch with Mussie (which is reading us Cc), which is more engaged and better connected than me on religious aspects.

Gerald Gotzen, our mutual friend, has given me your email address as he knows that I share a concern for the suffering of the people in Eritrea – particularly the Christians who are imprisoned in police stations, containers, military camps etc. Our group is an Irish Christian human rights charity which seeks to support the Persecuted Church around the world by prayer and action.

I am pleased to hear that you are having the opportunity to meet the Italian Foreign Minister on Tuesday and pray that it will be a useful meeting and that he will be able to use his influence to benefit the suffering people of Eritrea.
